This course is designed to introduce students to a variety of agencies
and professions in law enforcement. It examines the role and
structure of the government and the rights and responsibilities of
citizens in a democratic society. Students will examine the
police, courts, corrections, adult system, juvenile justice systems,
the civil and criminal law.
Money Management/Personal Finance (27.353)
This course is offered to seniors. Its focus is upon real world
applications and computations. The following is a partial list of topics
studied in this course: Total pay, hourly wages, tips, withholding, time
from time cards, overtime, commissions, deductions, net pay, health &
life insurance cost, sale price, sales tax, total cost, unit price,
checkbook balance, simple interest. finance charge, overdraft checking
costs, loan interest, monthly payments, repayment total, installment
price, car cost, mpg, auto insurance premium, auto rental cost, fuel
cost, auto loan finance charge, map distance, taxes, rent, amount to
borrow to buy a house, appreciation, monthly mortgage, total housing
cost, assessed value, real estate taxes, home owner’s insurance, utility
costs.
Sociology- (45.331 or 45.331H)
This course offers a study of human relationships in society. It focuses
upon the use of a sociological point of view to examine culture, social
structure, the individual in society, social institutions, and social
inequality such as Marriage & the Family, Drugs & Society, Race &
Ethnicity, Social Inequality and Juvenile Delinquency . The changing
social world and its implications are presented and analyzed in this
class.
Sports and Entertainment Marketing (8.3478)
This course is designed
for students interested in sports, entertainment, and event marketing.
Emphasis is placed on the following principles as they apply to the
industry: branding, licensing, and naming rights; business foundations;
concessions and on-site merchandising; economic foundations; promotion;
safety and security; and human relations. Skills in communications,
human relations, psychology, and mathematics are reinforced in this
course.
